Course Description:

This course gives the student an introduction into web design, photography, and photo editing using Photoshop Elements.

 

Course Competencies/ Learning Objectives

Students who successfully complete Graphic Design will be able to:

  • Web Design
    • Describe the Internet.
    • Describe the World Wide Webs.
    • Describe Hypertext Markup Language.
    • Define web page structure.
    • Enter web page content.
    • Improve the appearance of a web page using style sheets, lists, images, etc.
    • Uses links on a web page.
    • Create a home page.
    • Create and edit a second web page.
    • Create web pages with tables.
    • Create and add external style sheets to web pages.
    • Create a form on a web page.
  • Photography
    • Take quality pictures.
    • Identify the parts of the camera.
    • Identify the use of each part of a camera.
    • Demonstrate different photography perspectives by taking pictures that represent each perspective.
    • Understand camera shutter speed, aperture, and F/stop.
  • Photoshop Elements
    • Place files.
    • Display drawing guides.
    • Change the foreground and background colors.
    • Use the Color Picker.
    • Use the brush tool, the blending modes, the eraser tool, the magic eraser tool, and the background eraser tool.
    • Use the marquee tools, the lasso tool, the magnetic lasso tool, the magic wand tool, the auto selection tool, and the quick selection tool.
    • Use the paint bucket tool and gradient tool.
    • Use layers to enhance photographs and graphics.
    • Create text.
    • Use the healing brush tool, the spot healing brush tool, and the clone stamp tool.
    • Use levels and hue/saturation.
    • Save and print images.

 

Student Evaluation

 

The grading system for Graphic Design is based on total points. The assessments will be participation, classwork, homework, projects, and tests.

 

Attendance Policy

The attendance policy stated in the school’s handbook will be followed.

 

Classroom Expectations

  5. Be responsible for your actions
  6. No eating, drinking, cell phones, or iPods permitted in the classroom

Classroom Level Consequences

Students not following classroom/district rules may receive the following consequences from Mr. Shupe):

  • Verbal Warning                              
  • Change of seat assignment
  • Before or After School Detention

Class Requirements

If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to make up the assignments and/or tests when you return.  You may check the parental portal to check your grades and missing assignments.

 

Plagiarism, Cheating, and Academic Integrity

Plagiarism is the practice of copying words, sentences, images, or ideas for use in written or oral assessments without giving proper credit to the source. Cheating is defined as the giving or receiving of illegal help on anything that has been determined by the teacher to be an individual effort. Both are considered serious offenses and will significantly affect your course grade.

 

Methodology

A combination of class discussion, teacher guided activities, independent activities, and tests will be used in this course. Grades will be determined by the satisfactory and timely completion of assignments. The grade of each assignment is based on the prerequisite given for each assignment.
