This course is designed for students to examine history through the cinematic universe. This should bring history to life for the student. In doing so they will be able to see through the eyes of historical figures. They will then analyze this information presented to them and hopefully comprehend what has happened, possibly what was left out, or what information was not presented in the film. Students will also learn to take notes, some of which will be guided by handouts and some which will be all on their own.
This class will also teach students how to formulate ideas and then put them into words by either writing a paper, writing a poem, and through discussion.
Course Competencies/ Learning Objectives:
Students who successfully complete History Through Film will be competent in the following areas:
- Comprehend information presented and formulate this information into an idea to write about.
- Students will learn how to write an introduction, body, and conclusion.
- Students will be able to defend their thesis throughout their writing.
- Students will also learn to take meaningful notes that will help them produce an outline to help them with their writing skills. These will be things like main characters, character flaws, important plot points/details, quotes, biases, and what information was presented along with how it was presented.
